Amine Asselman Moroccan, b. 1989

Born in Tétouan
Lives & works in Tétouan

Amine Asselman is an artist and holds a PhD in contemporary art.

From a young age, he developed a strong interest in physics and mathematics, and it was to satisfy his curiosity for these disciplines that he enrolled in the School of Architecture of Rabat in 2007. After two years of study, he discovered a true passion for art and design. He then moved back to Tétouan, his hometown, to study design at the National Institute of Fine Arts.

With his degree in hand in 2013, he pursued a Master's in Contemporary Art at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Pontevedra, at the University of Vigo in Spain. There, he discovered the works of M.C. EscherAntoni Gaudí, and Sol LeWitt, who deeply influenced his artistic vision. In their practices, he found the intersection of his two passions: science and art.

It is geometry, an art form deeply rooted in his cultural heritage, that pushed him to continue his path. From 2015 to 2019, still at the University of Vigo in Spain, he developed his research on Zellige and contemporary creation between Spain and Morocco.

During his academic years, the artist shaped his artistic career by participating in numerous national and international exhibitions, and received several awards and grants.

Amine Asselman currently lives in Tétouan, where he has established his own ceramic and artistic Zellige production studio. He also holds a teaching position at the Institute of Fine Arts in the city.
