Dedicated to photography, the Month of Photography returns after a 20-year absence, from April 27 to June 2, 2024. Launched in 2000 and held until 2004 by Sakina Rharib – then curator of the Marrakech Museum – this event, originally called Mai de la Photo, is once again inviting encounters between artists and the general public throughout the city of Marrakech.
It is organized by various cultural actors in the city, including ESAV, the Maison de la Photographie, the Institut Français, the Maison Denise Masson, Dar Bellarj, Les Étoiles de Jemaa El Fna, the Leila Alaoui Foundation, Es Saadi Resort, the Montresso Foundation, MACAAL, and others.
Mai de la Photo aims to be open to all, participatory, and inclusive. The program includes a series of exhibitions and meetings designed to reach a wide audience, spark dialogue, question our relationship with images, and awaken curiosity in as many people as possible.
This year, the chosen theme is The Trace: how photography illustrates memory—of the past, the present, and the future.
